The Boxer is a medium sized, sturdy dog of square build with short back, strong limbs, and short tight fitting coat. His musculation, well developed, should be clean, hard and appear smooth (not buldging) under taut skin.
His movement should denote energy.
The gait is firm, yet elastic (springy), the stride free and ground covering, the carriage, proud and noble.
A Boxers head imparts his uniqueness and individual stamp. It should be in perfect proportion to the body, never small to the overall picture. His muzzle is his most distinctive feature, and a great value is placed upon its being of correct form and in absolute proper proportion to the skull.
A Boxers bite should be undershot, but he should never show teeth.
He should have dark eyes.
His attitude should be alert and fun loving. The only recognized colors are fawn and brindle. * White markings are allowed, but should never cover more than a third of the body.
Males should be 23 1/2 to 25 1/ inches at the withers.
Females shoud be 21 to 24 inches at the withers.
* In the 1930's and 40's in Germany, the first Boxer Champions
were white or mainly white with spots of fawn or brindling.
As the breed evolved only fawn and brindle remained as the
accepted colors.
Occasionally there will be white pups in a litter. They are as
wonderful as their colored siblings.
They, however, can only receive an AKC "Limited Registration"
which prohibits them from reproducing or being shown in conformation.
Despite their color, they are 100% Boxer!
