The American Kennel Club classifies the Boxer as a "Working" breed.
This means that the origin of the breed was to "work" instead of hunt, herd
or for sport.
In Germany, where the Boxer originated, they were used for sentry duty (especially during the World Wars).
A Boxers keenest sense is that of hearing, which makes them wonderful
watch dogs.
Boxers are not a nervous breed, the fact that they have an abundance of energy should not be mistaken for hyperness.
Contrary to rumor, Boxers are not incessant droolers.
They do not do well in excessive heat, as the configuration of their head and jowls can make it hard for them to breathe.
They are known for their antics and will do whatever they can to hear you laugh at them. They are clowns!
The old adage "bet you can't eat just one" ...
with a Boxer it's "bet you can't own just one".
Showing a dog is a matter of preference, it takes a great deal of time, effort and expense ... and in most cases a dog will live away from home for a period of time.
It is very gratifying to own a "show" dog. However it is equally gratifying to own a quality, well-bred family pet ... a companion, a protector and a friend.
A "pet" puppy is by no means inferior to a "show" prospect. Pet puppies generally come from the same parents as the show puppy.
We sell our "show" puppies once we have carefully ascertained that all the necessary attributes needed to "show" are in place. These puppies are sold at approximately 6 months of age.
